Last pics of our chicks!!!!!   Bill is picking them up in the morning so that they can run around outside.  We have thoroughly enjoyed their company. And as one of the kids said  "we have treated them like family"

Some of our literacy activities this morning

Today in our maths we decided to weigh our chicks. We had to estimate how much each one weighed first.  We used a 100s chart to see who was the closest to the exact weight.

Nathan's mum brought his two new guinea pigs in to show us today. They are 8 weeks old.
Poor Tahlia discovered she is allergic to them.

Our chicks are already starting to grow feathers on their wings.
Mae is loving looking after our chicks.

on a sadder note

Over the weekend we lost two of our chicks. Se we have needed to have a discussion about life and death. We are lucky we have this picture to remember our beautiful chick with the amazing colours.

Attention!!

Great excitement today.
Yesterday Bill came bought in a brooder for the chicks to stay in. When he took the incubator I said to him. "Bill there is one more egg with a tiny crack in it. Do you think it will hatch after this long?" Bill said he would put it in the incubator when he got home. To our surprise (can you imagine the childrens' excitement) Bill came in today with chick number six. It is a completely different colour to the others.
Here is Jazmine holding it. She wasn't game to have a hold yesterday and today ... here she is

Dinosaur Day

Last term we learnt about dinosaurs and at the end of the term we had a dinosaur making day. We had heaps of fun making dinosaurs out of boxes. We had lots of our mums and dads helping us. We were so lucky that they could help us. Here are some pictures of the dinosaurs we designed.

We have a microscope set up in our classroom. Each day we put something else under the microscope to see what it looks like enlarged. Here is Jamieson checking something out.

Maths

Today we looked at weighing things. We used scales and we found things around the room to weigh. We tried to find two things that we thought might weigh the same. Then we used the scales to check.

We are super excited in our classroom because we have an incubator with eggs in it. We have already had it for 2 weeks. Next Wednesday we are hoping that the eggs will hatch. Bill our crossing man has given us all the equipment. He has come in to visit us several times and told us about chooks. He even brought in his special chooks. Today he brought in his racing pigeons. He let them go and they flew home from school. Today he also checked all the 18 eggs with a torch to see if there were chicks growing. We think we have 13 chicks growing.
